Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)
Is an advanced nondestructive technique using ultrasonic probes with multiple small elements. These elements can be pulsed individually with precise timing, allowing for the electronic manipulation of the ultrasonic beam's angle, depth, and movement. PAUT probes can be used manually, with encoders, or on motorized scanners to quickly and accurately inspect materials for defects like corrosion and cracks. PAUT is widely used for weld inspections and crack detection in various materials.
PAUT Benefits:
- Quick and high-resolution inspection of large areas through beam manipulation.
- Faster than conventional UT.
- Precise cross-sections for better anomaly detection.
- Consistent and repeatable scans.
- Suitable for complex geometries and limited access areas.
- Safer alternative to radiography in hazardous environments.
